Joey Bada$$ has no problem admitting he takes issue with Cardi B‘s massive hit, “Bodak Yellow,” despite having nothing but love for his fellow New Yorker.
In an interview with Method Man that the duo conducted for Billboard, the “Show Me” rapper discussed “Bodak” as a “New York anthem.”
Joey said: “This is my disclaimer with ‘Bodak Yellow.’ First of all, I love Cardi B … But, for me, ‘Bodak Yellow,’ is literally a Kodak Black flow. Like, it’s a Florida flow, you know what I’m saying? … We having a conversation about New York anthems. While, okay, yes, I think that it definitely was an anthemic record for beyond New York, I think that it just has this DNA of not a New York song. Let’s be real about it. If Kodak Black didn’t exist we would have never have gotten ‘Bodak Yellow.’”

Bada$$ is no stranger to offering up his thoughts on controversial topics.
Back in April, he inserted himself into the J. Cole versus Kendrick Lamar sparring match with a reminder about his own pedigree when it comes to rap battles.
The Brooklyn MC took to X (formerly Twitter) to share his 2013 track “Killuminati Pt. 2,” which he recorded in response to Kendrick’s incendiary verse on Big Sean‘s “Control.”
Joey posted the song alongside a simple caption: “Never forget.”
The song was produced by Knxwledge and found the Pro Era member going straight for K. Dot’s neck.
“No escaping, you in a swimming pool of champagne/ You set yourself up for that one, mane/ The King of New York?/ Ha! We ain’t just gon’ let that one hang,” he rapped, referencing Kendrick’s audacious claim about occupying the Big Apple’s throne.
Joey’s tweet came after J. Cole fired back at Kendrick Lamar on his surprise new project Might Delete Later.
As for Cardi, she’s been slowly revealing details about her highly anticipated forthcoming album.
The rapper, who just gave birth to her third child, recently went back to work on her long-awaited sophomore album.
Taking to X earlier this week, just hours after she shared photos of her newborn, the Bronx superstar wrote: “Now is crunch time [album emoji] on my kids.”
Though she’d shared photos that day, her baby girl actually arrived days prior on Saturday (September 7).
Cardi and Offset have not yet shared the baby’s name, but she joins six-year-old sister Kulture and big brother Wave, who turned three days earlier.
