Port and port pilots are on strike again this Monday, demanding access to early retirement from the age of 60 and retirement from the age of 65, “with fair and dignified conditions”.
The strike was called by the unions of Captains, Pilot Officers, Stewards and Engineers of the Merchant Navy (Oficiaismar)/Federation of Transport and Communications Unions (Fectrans) and the Union of Captains and Officers of the Merchant Navy (Sincomar).
The first strike period begins at 7am this Monday and continues until Wednesday. From 7am on 23 September until the same time on the 25th, bar and port pilots will strike again.
A third strike period is also scheduled, which will take place between September 30 and October 2, with the start and end times being the same as the other periods.
These workers demand access to early retirement from the age of 60 and retirement from the age of 65, “with fair and dignified conditions”, depending on the risk and wear and tear of the activity.
“This is a demand from the workers, but also in the interest of the port authorities, with whom there is already an agreement from 2019 made with the approval of the government at the time, but then the governments that followed did not comply with it”, reads a statement from Fectrans.
The strike notice was delivered on July 29. The unions regret that the Government has not given any sign of wanting to respond to the sector’s demands.
